An awareness program about domestic, family and gender violence under the name “Activism against Family Violence: Capacity Building and Advocacy Forum” was organized by socially active Didi Baini Samaj Victoria (DBSV) on Saturday the 25th of November, 2017.
The program aimed to raise awareness against domestic violence and emphasized prevention via fostering community connection was addressed by prominent members of the community, including Moreland City Council Mayor, Cr John Kavanagh.
The program was also graced by Hon. Consulate General to Victoria from Nepal Chandra Yonzon and his wife. Addressing the crowd, Mr. Yonzon said that all forms of violence are unacceptable. In an age like this it is appalling that domestic violence is still rampant and that it can be curbed through awareness programs as such. He also spoke of the domestic violence related cases received at the Nepal Consulate Office, and the assistance provided. At last, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the DBSV team for their selfless efforts and urged continuation to such social causes.
