Messi's statue vandalised in Argentina, for the second time

2017-12-05, NV

Messi's statue in Beunes Aires was found vandalized yesterday, for the second time. Mess's statues lies in Paseo de la Gloria (walkway of glory) among other Argentinean sports heroes. His statue was found severed at the ankles while the structure lay fallen near the pedestal. This is the second time Messi's statue has been vandalised. In Jan 2106, vandalisers had gotten away with Messi's upper torso. Authorities have no leads against the vandalisers.
Messi is often criticised in his home country because he left for Barcelona in an early age and also because he has not able to land the nation a major international tournament win despite being in the finals of the World Cup (2014), and Copa America (2007 and 2015).
However, his hat trick against Ecuador has won him much favour at home because he paved way for the Argentinean team to play in Russia at the 2018 World Cup.
